I'm not sure I would think about it that way - it then sounds as though God sends us suffering to keep us humble.
Doesn't sound a bit like Him.
I saw it as: - we are like little kids who demand to drive Dad's car, totally convinced that they can. And they might get a little way but they are going to get into trouble without Dad's strong hands on the wheel with theirs

So what do you think...is that why need suffering in our life? To keep us totally dependent and on our knees. I would say it keeps us very humble.
